The younger generation of filmmakers is concerned about our roots, rather than making films with characters plucked out of the cloud or some English DVD. Actually since 2000, Tamil cinema is going through some positive changes.

In school I was sidelined by Tamil language teachers. But in the film industry, I got interested in Tamil poetry after reading and working with the Vairamuthu.

Music has no language. That's something I've come to believe in even more ever since 'Kolaveri Di' happened. I don't deliberately make separate Tamil, Hindi, or Telugu tracks.

Tamil Nadu needs a leader, a leadership. I am coming to fill that vacuum.

Even in India the Hindi film industry might be the best known but there are movies made in other regional languages in India be it Tamil or Bengali. Those experiences too are different from the ones in Bombay.
