Years ago, I came out with a Christmas album called 'Tinsel Time'. It was just a pet project for me, but it ended up going to number one on Amazon!

As a child, I saw my mother prepare for Christmas every year, and it never occurred to me that labor was involved. I thought it was my mother's joy and privilege to hang tinsel on the tree strand by strand, to make sure that every room in the house had a touch of Christmas, down to the Santa-themed rug and hand towels in the bathroom.

After church on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, my family would go chop down our Christmas tree. Once it was home and placed in its stand, Mom and I would painstakingly decorate our tree. It took hours to place the tinsel, string the lights, find the perfect spot for my favorite macaroni and felt ornaments from kindergarten.

Grief is a room without doors - but somehow, with its tinsel and cliches, Christmas finds a way in.

After Pride, Christmas is a drag queen's next best holiday. It's pretty gay, full of tinsel and glitter and finery and campness.
