My early business ventures included growing Christmas trees and breeding birds.

The one thing I'm a firm believer in is that cars are the best thing to be around on television. They are exciting. They're fun. They elicit emotions. They can take you on adventures. They can make you laugh, make you cry. They're the best medium.

Family trips to Yellowstone and to what are now national parks in Southern Utah, driving the primitive roads and cars of that day, were real adventures.

I guess I'm more like a comet then. I'm just going to keep on coming back.

Life never gives us what we want at the moment that we consider appropriate. Adventures do occur, but not punctually.

But I always liked side-paths, little dark back-alleys behind the main road- there one finds adventures and surprises, and precious metal in the dirt.

Take wrong turns. Talk to strangers. Open unmarked doors. And if you see a group of people in a field, go find out what they are doing. Do things without always knowing how they'll turn out. You're curious and smart and bored, and all you see is the choice between working hard and slacking off. There are so many adventures that you miss because you're waiting to think of a plan. To find them, look for tiny interesting choices. And remember that you are always making up the future as you go.

People come, people go ? they'll drift in and out of your life, almost like characters in a favorite book. When you finally close the cover, the characters have told their story and you start up again with another book, complete with new characters and adventures. Then you find yourself focusing on the new ones, not the ones from the past.

Love, like everything else in life, should be a discovery, an adventure, and like most adventures, you don't know you're having one until you're right in the middle of it.
