At those times when the loneliness has gone on for so long that we have little alternative than to believe that loneliness is the single story that life has penned for us and that there is no other story?at those times we wonder if anyone is listening. And at those times, we would be wise to remember that God is listening to our wondering.

In the Bible God says, "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you." God will listen. Not out of obligation. Not because you are a project. Not because you are a charity case. Not because God is checking a box. There's none of that. The fact is, He created us to be heard by Him. Therefore, He can do nothing other than listen to us.

I'd given up on the NGK dominee's God a while back. But when I listened to people talking about their HP (Higher Power), I realised God may not be a big, bossy guy with a white beard. She might be a quiet inner voice.

Life is really very simple. In each moment, we have the opportunity to choose between saying "yes" or "no", to listen to our intuition, to listen to our true inner voice, the Existential voice within ourselves. When we say "yes", we have contact with Existence and we receive nourishment, love, joy, support and Inspirational. When we say "no", we create a separation from life and begin to create dreams and expectations of how it should be. Personally, I always wondered about authors and celebrities who loudly declared there was no God. It was usually when they were healthy and popular and being listened to by crowds. What happens, I wondered, in the quiet moments before death? By then, they have lost the stage, the world has moved on. If suddenly, in their last gasping moments, through fear, a vision, a late enlightenment, they change their minds about God, who would know?

Music is, to me, proof of the existence of God. It is so extraordinarily full of magic, and in tough times of my life I can listen to music and it makes such a difference.
