It is capitalist America that produced the modern independent woman. Never in history have women had more freedom of choice in regard to dress behavior career and sexual orientation.

History suggests that capitalism is a necessary condition for political freedom. Clearly it is not a sufficient condition.

Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in ancient Greek republics: Freedom for slave owners.

Everything is just better in California - the wine the food fruits and vegetables the comforts of living. Even the instrumentalists are generous and curious. Everything is wonderful.

And if you look at the reality in the United States where you have more than 40 million people below the poverty line and 42 million on food stamps and then you look at poverty around the world clearly the way we're running the engine of capitalism is not serving us well.

Under capitalism each individual engages in economic planning.

Under capitalism man exploits man. Under communism it's just the opposite.

I don't think that fundamentalism has anything to do with Jesus Christ. They call themselves Christians but if that's Christian count me out. Fundamentalism is built on fear and greed. They're telling you to give them your money otherwise you're going to hell.

I have been thinking about the notion of perfect love as being without fear and what that means for us in a world that's becoming increasingly xenophobic tortured by fundamentalism and nationalism.

Fundamentalists are panicked by the apparent disintegration of the family the disappearance of certainty and the decay of morality. Fear leads them to ask if we cannot trust the Bible what can we trust?

It is no longer an unwritten law of American capitalism that industry will attempt to maintain wages at a level that allows a single wage to support a family.

There is a split between Muslims who want to practice their faith in peace and tolerance with other religions and other people and these extreme radical fundamentalists who have shown a total lack of tolerance for people with different views starting with people who they don't think are good Muslims and going on to include Christians and Jews.

Bad religion is arrogant self-righteous dogmatic and intolerant. And so is bad science. But unlike religious fundamentalists scientific fundamentalists do not realize that their opinions are based on faith. They think they know the truth.

There are a lot of Christian fundamentalists there are a lot of Muslim extremists. Every religion - Mormonism - has something way on the side that's completely using the religion as some weird backbone for their twisted faith. It has nothing to do with their religion.

An unexamined faith is not worth having for fundamentalism and uncritical certitude entail the rejection of one of the great human gifts: that of free will of the liberty to make up our own minds based on evidence and tradition and reason.

At least the fundamentalists haven't tried to dilute their message. Their faith is exposed for what it is for all to see.

They talk about the failure of socialism but where is the success of capitalism in Africa Asia and Latin America?

The idea of capitalism is not just success but also the failure that allows success to happen.

Optimism is a kind of heart stimulant - the digitalis of failure.

All that is necessary to break the spell of inertia and frustration is this: Act as if it were impossible to fail. That is the talisman the formula the command of right about face which turns us from failure to success.

A fundamentalist can't bring himself or herself to negotiate with people who disagree with them because the negotiating process itself is an indication of implied equality.

Mankind is considered (by the radical environmentalists) the lowest and the meanest of all species and is blamed for everything.

Why are ecologists and environmentalists so feared and hated? This is because in part what they have to say is new to the general public and the new is always alarming.

Capitalism would have never let me be a filmmaker living in Flint Michigan with a high school education. I was going to have to make that happen myself.
