It's often been said that you learn more from losing than you do from winning. I think, if you're wise, you learn from both. You learn a lot from a loss. You learn what is it that we're not doing to get to where we want to go. It really gets your attention and it really motivates the work ethic of your team when you're not doing well.

My thought process is I have been lied to so much by people who I thought I could trust that it motivates me to want to be as honest as possible, to project that energy, because that is how I want people to treat me.

There are consequences to every action I take, but that does not keep me from acting. It motivates me to choose wisely, to be responsible, and understand the power that I have within me.

Vince Neil once told me 'You look down on people.' My wife once told me something along the same lines, 'You look down on people who were born with silver spoons.' She's right. I DO look down on those people. I look down on how superficial they are. On the way they don't even register suffering. It's as if other people's pain doesn't exist. But it does exist. You can't cut yourself off from the pain without losing a lot of good things that go with it. All the lines etched into an old person's hands and face, every one of those lines tells a story. Just looking at them, letting yourself see their beauty, that's half the work. All their hopes, all their fears, all that motivates them, or maybe makes them wish they didn't exist, those are things to write about.

Yeah I think it motivates you as people start to count you out. It doesn't make you play any harder because every time you go out on the field you give 110 percent but it does give you more of an edge mentally knowing that you were in the same situation because in sports you always find yourself behind.

In parallel with the development of my interests in technical gadgetry I began to acquire a profound love of and respect for the natural world which motivates my scientific thinking to this day.
